Brooklyn Industries' Lexy Funk was on WNYC's Brian Lehrer Show last week, participating in a discussion with other local business owners about surviving the recession. The discussion was a preview to a Crain's Future of New York Conference that took place later that day, where Lexy was also a panelist. You can listen to the clip here.

The US will be getting its first taste of UK-based accessories brand Accessorize in the coming year, as the company has been scouting locations in key cities on the East Coast. Known for its colorful, bohemian aesthetic and something-for-everyone approach to retailing, Accessorize already has nearly 800 stores worldwide and should have no problem winning over customers on this side of the pond.
Dylan Lauren supports fellow sweet-purveyor Max & Mina's Ice Cream in a New York Times article, calling them a “hippie, Orthodox, New York version of Ben & Jerry.” Business is booming for the Queens-based ice cream vendor, which is also available at Dylan's Candy Bar stores in Manhattan and Roosevelt Field Mall.
Brooklyn Industries has just released a t-shirt they designed in collaboration with Friends of the High Line. Half of the proceeds from the sales of the t-shirt will benefit FHL and New York City's newest park. This is what Brooklyn Industries CEO Lexy Funk has to say about it on their blog: “The High Line is a great example of how sustainable ideas can improve our lives. FHL has worked to turn a defunct railroad into a beautiful elevated park that people can enjoy. We’re excited to collaborate with FHL on this t-shirt and support an initiative that aligns so closely with Brooklyn Industries’ belief in sustainability.”
Anya Hindmarch received her MBE (Member of the British Empire) at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, honoring her contribution to the British fashion industry. On meeting the Queen, Anya said, "It was such a fantastic honour and a really special experience. It made me feel so proud to be British!"
Anya Hindmarch has designed a tote, pictured above, in honor of New York City's newest greenspace, the High Line. The abandoned elevated train line that stretches from Gansevoort to West 20th Street has been converted to a park that will open to the public this month. Anya's commemorative tote is available at Jeffrey and 25% of proceeds will go to Friends of the High Line.
